GRASONVILLE – Resources for schools, housing, the elderly and more are often determined by a community’s population to distribute funding based on the population count in the last census. In recent years, Grasonville has been underrepresented in the census, which is taken every 10 years. To correct this, local officials are working together to host Grasonville Community Day on Saturday, March 28, from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. at the Grasonville Community Center. As an added bonus, the first 50 people to check in at the 2020 Census table will receive a Wawa gift card.

The Grasonville Community Day is sponsored by the 2020 Maryland Census and local officials to encourage residents to respond to the 2020 Census so a more accurate count can be made of Grasonville. Grasonville was the one area identified as a “hard to count” area of low response from the 2010 Census.

There will be a variety of vendors offering information to promote healthy families including the Department of Emergency Services, the Nielson Center, QA Master Gardner’s, Board of Elections, the League of Women Voters, Chesapeake Helps, Haven Ministries, QAC Library, Grasonville Volunteer Fire Department and several more.
The event will feature free entertainment and lunch as well as the opportunity to fill out the 2020 Census. Census information and staff will be on hand throughout the event to assist with questions.
Computers will be set up for people to answer the Census and there will be people available to assist.
