Grasonville Senior Center will offer several Craft Design and Production classes during the winter semester. Students will be learning the production and marketing of craft items, basic sales techniques and the fundamentals of preparing craft items for decoration and sale. Topics include: how to develop benchmarks, measure profitable production, marketing and quality control. Classes offered will Emphasize Ceramic Arts, Watercolor Painting, Colors for Earth, Traditional Rug Hooking, and Oil Painting. Emphasis on Ceramic Arts will be offered on Mondays at 1:00PM beginning January 4. Emphasis on Watercolor Painting class will be offered on Tuesdays at 12:30PM beginning January 5. Emphasis on Traditional Rug Hooking class will teach one of America’s oldest art forms on Wednesdays at 1:00PM beginning January 20. Emphasis on Oil Painting class is offered on Thursdays at 9:00AM and also at 12:30PM beginning January 7. Students will paint the subject of their choice while learning to mix colors, highlight, and shade using oils. Beginners are encouraged to try these fun classes and learn our flawless techniques. Participants must be age 60 or better. These courses are provided by Chesapeake College Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Training. Advance registration is required. Registration cost just $15.00 and entitles the student to take as many classes as they choose during the 12 week session. Some classes require a supply fee / supply list. Grasonville Senior Center is pleased to announce its winter line up of Healthy Living for Older Adults classes. These classes are designed for seniors to improve health through education and awareness training. Instruction will focus on therapeutic health concepts and practices. Topics include: cardiovascular system, muscle tone and coordination, improved balance, body composition, and a nutritional component. There will be an emphasis on Line Dance, Arthritis Exercise, Aerobic Exercise, Ballroom Dance, and Tai Chi. Instructors offer individual coaching within a group setting. Emphasis on Line Dancing offers great exercise for mind and body on Mondays at 1:30PM beginning January 11. Emphasis on Aerobic Exercise offers an immense cardio work out on Tuesdays at 9:00AM and Thursdays at 10:30AM beginning January 5. Emphasis on Arthritis Exercise will help reduce stiffness of the joints and keep joints flexible; this class is offered on Tuesdays at 10:15AM beginning January 5. Emphasis on Ballroom Dance is offered on Tuesdays at 1:00PM beginning January 5. Emphasis on Tai Chi Exercise is offered on Thursdays at 9:00AM beginning January 7 and teaches graceful continuous movements combined with breathing control to promote relaxation, balance, flexibility, muscle tone, and coordination. Beginners are encouraged to try something new in these fit and fun classes. Participants must be age 60+ and should wear comfortable clothing and shoes to class. Grasonville Senior Center announces its’ line up of computer classes being offered for the winter semester through Chesapeake College Continuing Education and Workforce Training Program. These courses are designed for senior adults, aged 60 or older, with little or no knowledge of computers. Classes begin the week of January 4, 2010; the two hour sessions meet once each week. Instructor Maxine Wixom will offer Digital Photography 1 with emphasis on Digital Photography on Mondays at 8:30am and Microsoft Word for Windows with emphasis on MS Word on Mondays at 11:00am; both classes begin on January 4. Additional computer classes will be offered by instructor Shelly Greer on Thursdays. Mrs. Greer will teach a Computer Basics for Seniors class with emphasis on Beginner Computers on Thursdays at 10:00am and an Intermediate Computer Skills for Seniors class with emphasis on Advanced Computers on Thursdays at 1:00pm; both classes begin January 7, 2010. Advance registration is required for all classes. The registration fee for the winter semester is just $15 and entitles the student to take additional classes at no extra cost.
