The Wye Conservatory of Music will host internationally known guitarist Peter Griggs in a concert, “500 Years of Music for Guitar,” at Old Wye Church in Wye Mills on Sunday, November 20 at 4 p.m.
Mr. Griggs explores the music of the classical guitar from the Renaissance to the Contemporary, including works by Gaspar Sanz, Johann Sebastian Bach, Bartolome Calatuyud, Django Rheinhardt and Thelonious Monk, as well as Flamenco, Brazilian music, and several of Griggs’ own compositions.
Guitarist/Composer Peter Griggs has performed throughout the USA, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Iceland, Canada and Egypt, at concert halls, art centers, festivals, museums, universities, cafes, clubs and other venues.
Reviews of his playing include, “Sizzling guitar playing,” from the Dundee, Scotland Courier and “an almost unbelievable talent — Peter Griggs performs magic!” from Germany’s Bergische Morning Post. He has recorded on Folkways Records, Music of the World, and Treecastle Music.
Old Wye Church is known for its fine acoustics. It is located at 14114 Old Wye Mills Road (Rte. 662) in Wye Mills. Admission at the door is $14.00, 15 years and under free.
