Awarding-winning classical guitarist and international performer Benjamin Beirs will present a concert of solo guitar works on Saturday, November 19th at The Four Winds Performing Arts Center. Described as a “brilliant young classical guitarist” by the D.C. Examiner, Beirs combines intense musicality with virtuosic proficiency, appealing to music lovers and guitar aficionados alike. The concert will begin at 7:00 PM at the Four Winds Performing Arts Center, located at Christ Church Parish, 830 Romancoke Road (next to the American Legion). This performance is FREE and open to the public.
Trained at the Peabody Conservatory by Julian Gray, Beirs has performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and as a soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic. He has also established an international career with concerts in India and performances with his Duo Transatlantique in France, England, as well as North America. As a performer, Beirs is open to any great musical idea, whether playing canonized masterworks of the guitar repertory, Scott Joplin rags, improvised pieces with musicians in India, or his own compositions.
Beirs’ masterful command of the guitar has also earned him numerous accolades. He is the recipient of numerous prizes from international guitar competitions: 1st prize in the 2007 National Guitar Workshop Competition, 1st prize in the 2008 Appalachian GuitarFest Competition, and 1st prize in the 2010 University of Texas at Dallas Guitar Competition. Beirs also has been a finalist in major concerto competitions, including the 2008 Schadt Concerto Competition (2nd prize) and the 2008 Joann Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition (3rd prize).
