Junior Andy Camp won First Place in 11th Grade Engineering category at the Ann Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) Science and Engineering Fair last week. In addition, he won the Yale Science and Engineering Association Award. He built and tested a portable hydroelectric generator with the ultimate goal of recharging cell phone batteries when hiking or camping “off the grid” near a stream. Andy created the traditional tri-fold display and fielded questions from many judges. The large AACPS fair,  a regional science fair affiliated with the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, included more than 300 projects this year. Andy was competing with students who had won their individual high school science fairs across the region.
