Every year birders gather in Cape May, New Jersey, for the World Series of Birding. This year, Gunston sophomore Faye Chen will be traveling there to compete in the high-school division of this competition on May 11. Students must be able to identify birds by sound or sight and, as a team, see how many species they can spot in a 24-hour time period.
It was Alison Vooris’ ornithology class that sparked Faye Chen’s passion for birds. Her Sunday mornings are now spent banding birds, and she regularly monitors bluebird boxes. We wish Faye and her team “The Carbonated Swamp Warblers” all the best in this competition!
