Gunston’s 5k Benefit for CPL Jacquet Draws Record Crowd

The October 20 5k Run/Walk for CPL Adam Jacquet was a huge success! Over 180 race participants turned out in support of the event, which raised $6,350 to assist Jacquet with expenses related to his recovery. In 2011, Jacquet sustained critical injuries in an IED blast while serving in Afghanistan. Last November, he received the Purple Heart award in recognition of his service.

The Gunston School would like to thank the community for their overwhelming support, whether through participation or cash donations, as well as the following event sponsors: Community Animal Hospital, Dudley Katz D.D.S. P.C. & Associates, Benchworks, Ebb Tide, Ledo Pizza, Holloway Formula, Self-Defense America, Fish Whistle, Brown Eyed Girl, Delmarva Radiology, and Callahan’s Gas & Oil.

Gunston would also like to recognize Jeff Davis Post 18 American Legion, as well as the Marine Corps League, for rallying to support a fellow warrior. The American Legion and Marine Corps orchestrated a flag ceremony prior to the race and then presented Jacquet with checks from their organizations totaling $1,350. The American Legion also gave Jacquet a one-year membership to their organization. Vice Commander Dennis Reed commented, “We were very proud to be a part of this event.”

Following the race, awards were distributed to the top male and female finishers in nine different age categories. Winning the overall male and female awards were Bobby Bramble of Easton, MD, and Olivia Keene, a Gunston senior, of Wittman, MD. A complete list of the 5k results can be found on www.gunston.org.

After the awards ceremony, Gunston Headmaster John Lewis and English Chair Amanda Newell presented Jacquet with a check of the event proceeds, which totaled $5,000. Everyone in attendance was proud to share in this poignant moment, one that honored a true local warrior noticeably touched by the school and community’s outpouring of support.
