Helping Animals with Chesapeake Cats and Dogs

We are highlighting a different local community organization every month- this month we’re highlighting Chesapeake Cats and Dogs, a local animal sanctuary that provides homes to dozens of animals in need and helps find them loving homes. We had the chance to talk to Debbie Lukacovic to learn a bit more about fostering animals through CCAD, their upcoming spaghetti dinner and more!

The best way to support CCAD is to adopt one of their animals. They are currently home to over 41 cats and kittens. Some of the cats have been there for years, many of them senior cats. Patches is a senior cat with an upper GI condition. Tabby Ann is an affectionate adult cat that had to be returned to CCAD because it didn’t get along with another cat..Both of them have been with Chesapeake Cats and Dogs for over 6 years. If you are interested in adopting any of these are other cats you can go to CCAD’s website at https://www.chesapeakecatsanddogs.org/.

For those who want to support a furry friend in need, but don’t want to have a cat for years to come, CCAD recommends fostering an animal. Fostering animals through CCAD helps them rescue other animals because it frees up their limited space. Fostering can also increase an animal’s chances of being adopted in the future. Debbie Lukacovic explained to me that “through the socialization and home environment you provide, you increase that animal’s chance of being adopted! As you learn about the dog’s or cat’s personality, Chesapeake Cats and Dogs is better able to place them in permanent homes.” All medical bills for foster pets will be paid by Chesapeake Cats and Dogs. They can also provide food and other supplies for your foster if needed.

If you don’t have the time to adopt or foster- CCAD has another fun way to support local animals in need! They have a Spaghetti Dinner scheduled for Sunday, July 23, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. – until 7:00 p.m. at the Centreville Masonic Lodge #180. Guests can make reservations in advance (text or call Lynn at 443-786-4113) or through PayPal.. All the money raised through the dinner will be used for food, litter, medicine.

Make sure to reserve your spot at CCAD’s Spaghetti dinner, or check out all the adorable adoptable pets on their website. If you are part of a local community organization or group and would like to be featured in The Shore Update you can contact marcus@shoreupdate.com for the chance to be featured.
