Long-Removed Signs Return Following Restoration Through Private Donation Honoring James B. Roy

The Queen Anne’s County Historical Society announces the reinstallation of exterior signage at its two historic house museums, Wright’s Chance and the Tucker House, both owned and operated by the Society and located in Centreville, Maryland.

The original signage was removed nearly a decade ago during exterior painting and restoration work and, while not lost, were never reinstalled. As a result, both museum houses lacked visible identification for many years. Through a private donation made in honor of James B. Roy, the signage has now been professionally recreated and reinstalled.

The replacement signs were recreated by Shore Signs of Chester, using the historic designs to restore the appearance and presence of the original museum signage. Their work has returned a key element of public visibility and identity to both museum houses.

Wright’s Chance and the Tucker House serve as the Society’s  museum sites, interpreting the history of Queen Anne’s County through architecture, collections, and public programming. The return of permanent exterior signage restores an essential element of wayfinding and clearly identifies both properties as public museums open to the community.

This project reflects the Society’s ongoing commitment to preservation, stewardship, and public access, while honoring individuals and partners who support the long-term care of historic resources in Queen Anne’s County.
