Robert T. Horvath, director of the Talbot County Free Library, has announced the donation to the library of a large collection of newly published audiobooks valued at more than $20,000. Liz Hannegan, a member of the library’s board of trustees, arranged for the gift to be made. Hannegan received the audiobooks in her capacity as chair of the 2012 Odyssey Award committee. The Odyssey is given annually for excellence in audiobook production for young people. Fiction and non-fiction titles submitted to the committee by their publishers ranged from read-along picture books to young adult novels. Once the 2012 Odyssey awards and honor titles had been announced in January, Hannegan was free to donate the audiobooks wherever she chose. Her selection of the Talbot County Free Library for this gift means the newly renovated Easton Branch will begin its new life with what may well be the most up-to-date collection of audiobooks for young people on the Eastern Shore.
