The Memorial Hospital Auxiliary recently renamed the hospital gift shop to honor Margaret B. Ferree. Maggie’s, which is located off of the main lobby of the hospital, carries unique gift items, snacks, flowers and greeting cards. Proceeds from shop sales benefit the programs and services of the hospital.
Commenting on Ferree’s long history with the Memorial Hospital at Easton and Shore Health System, Joe Ross, president and CEO, says, “Maggie, as she is fondly known by so many, is a kind and generous lady who has achieved a great deal of respect and admiration because she selflessly gives of her time, talent and generosity for many worthy causes.”
Ferree has been associated with Memorial Hospital and Shore Health System for over 20 years. As a volunteer for the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, she amassed more than 14,500 hours, the equivalent of seven years of full-time employment. She served as president of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary from 1984 to 1986 and again from 1992 to 1994. Under her leadership, the hospital’s gift shop and snack bar opened in the 1980s.
Ferree served as a director of the Memorial Hospital and the Shore Health System boards of directors. In 2006, she was named an honorary member of the Shore Health System board. She served on many committees of the board, chaired the Macqueen Gibbs Willis School of Nursing Committee for several years, and gave time and valuable advice to the Memorial Hospital Foundation Scholarship Committee.
During the 1980-81 capital campaign, Ferree donated funds that were used to build the Memorial Hospital radiology suite dedicated to her late husband, Russell Ferree.
Ferree has been an influential supporter of nursing education. She was involved in transitioning the Macqueen Gibbs Willis School of Nursing program to Chesapeake College and served on Shore Health System’s Partnership 2000 Nursing Endowment Fund Committee. A nursing scholarship fund established in her name continues today at Chesapeake College.
Maggie’s gift shop is open at Memorial Hospital, 219 S. Washington Street in Easton, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am to 7:30 pm; Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm; and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4:00 pm.
