Interactive Blacksmithing Demo at CBMM March 4

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md., is partnering with Mystic Seaport: The Museum of America and the Sea in Mystic, Conn. to offer an interactive four-day blacksmithing program. Working with CBMM boatyard staff, Mystic’s blacksmiths are offering the public an Interactive Blacksmithing Demonstration on Saturday, March 4, from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

The one-day program includes learning about forges and tools used in forging metal and the opportunity to participate in making a wall hook. Cost for the program is $15 for CBMM members and $25 for non-members; pre-registration is needed at bit.ly/CBMMblacksmithing.

During the remainder of their visit to CBMM, Mystic’s blacksmith’s will work with CBMM Boatyard staff on the techniques necessary in drawing out material to make forged items, with a strong focus on tool-making and repair.
