It’s Census Time! Census Information and Answers

The National Census, taken every ten years since 1790, will occur this March.  Two Coordinators for the census, Jane Traynham and Linda Janey, of the Maryland Department of Planning, will speak about the census and answer questions on Thursday, January 21 at 7 p.m. at the Queen Anne’s County Free Library in Centreville.  They will address the kind of information the census asks for; how census information is used; confidentiality of census information; why it is important to respond to the census in terms of the benefits to schools, hospitals, EMS, senior centers, the county and state; how the census impacts representation in the Maryland state legislature; and how to recognize and avoid scams that imitate the census.

This informational forum which is free and open to the public; it is sponsored by the Queen Anne’s County League of Women Voters. The Centreville Library is at 121 South Commerce Street in Centreville.  There is parking on the street and a parking lot in back.  If county schools are closed for inclement weather, the forum will be cancelled. The Queen Anne’s County League of Women Voters is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in their government.
