Jerry Keiser resigned as director of Kent County Public Library last week. For several weeks, the county commissioners have strongly suggested the library board remove Keiser from his position as director due to apparent irregularities in fiduciary management of the library that resulted in a substantial deficit in operating funds. The board had considered closing the Rock Hall branch to save money, though the space is occupied rent-free. Closing the branch would have laid off a staff member who had no responsibility for the fiscal operation and would have penalized Rock Hall library patrons. The commissioners instead urged that the issue be handled in such a way that no innocent party, including patrons, taxpayers, or staff suffer consequences for actions in which they had no part.
