One of the many definitions for the word “sing” includes “to make melodious sounds”. The Morgan State University Choir in Baltimore has been making melodious and amazing sounds for decades now. They have won numerous awards and toured many countries around the world.
Closer to home the Kent Island High School Choir has worked hard to achieve excellent and superior ratings at its annual festivals, entertain locally when called upon to do so and perform annual winter and spring concerts to packed auditoriums. Members of these two choirs will meet this weekend to share and learn.
The Kent Island Choir members are working hard to sell tickets to the Morgan State Choir concert. They will provide on-site assistance the evening of the concert and will receive a portion of the concert’s proceeds. The choir numbers nearly 140 students. Extra funds are always appreciated to help buy new music, outfit the members for concerts and pay registration fees for activities.
“In these changing economic times, fundraising helps supplement my classroom budget and allows the choir to do above and beyond its standard activities,” said J. Curtis White, KIHS director of choirs. “My ultimate dream is to be able to hire an orchestra to perform while the choir sings.”
