KENT ISLAND GARDEN TOUR SET FOR JUNE 7 & 8

DSCN2733KENT ISLAND GARDEN TOUR SET FOR JUNE 7 & 8

This is the 5th year of the Gardens By The Sea Tour sponsored by the Kent Island Federation of Arts!   The tour will include 8 incredible gardens located on Kent Island by the Chesapeake Bay.   The Cove Creek Club community has the most gardens on this year’s tour.   Having most gardens in a central location will make touring the gardens very easy for the visitors.

Each garden is staffed by a docent who will share the plantings and help identify the flowers, bushes and trees.  The tour is self guided and the accompanying brochure and map is purchased at Kent Island Federation of Arts (KIFA) gallery & office on Main Street in Stevensville.

To add to your enjoyment,  KIFA plein air artists and artists from Delaware, Annapolis, Easton and St. Michaels will be painting in the gardens.

The  artist will capture the beauty of a single bloom or the vista before them.  It is always a joy to watch them create and answer questions about their art.

Back by popular demand is the inclusion of the Cascia Vineyards on the tour.

For a nominal, additional fee of $5, you can participate in wine tasting at the vineyard at the end of both tour days from 4-6pm.   The setting is perfect for relaxing on the deck overlooking Thompson and Cox Creeks.

Each year KIFA invites members to create works of art for a special gallery exhibit.   “The Artists’ Garden” exhibit opens on May 28th and continues to

June 28th.   The opening reception for this free exhibit is Thursday, May 29th from 5-7pm.  The public is invited to attend, enjoy refreshments and talk with the artists.  It is easy to see where their inspiration comes from on Kent Island and surrounding water communities of the Eastern shore.

A Garden Boutique located at KIFA during the Garden Tour, is a popular addition to the festivities.  There one can find handcrafted works of art such as the beautiful garden totems created by artists, Susan Ayres and Nancy O’Brien.

You are sure to take home a one of a kind treasure for your garden.

On Sunday, June 8th, a “Wet Paint” Sale of the new plein air paintings will be on display at KIFA.  A small reception will occur at this time from 4-6 pm.

Come and drink in the sights of each garden; the sounds of the water; the smells of the flowers and the artistry of our artists.  It is a delightful way to spend a June day.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 the day of the event, are good for both days and may be purchased online at www.kifa.us or by calling KIFA at 410 643-7424.  You may also order directly by sending a check to KIFA at 405 Main Street, Stevensville, MD.  KIFA is a 501©3 non-profit organization partially funded by grants from the United Way and CFC.

Come for the day or stay for the weekend….and enjoy!
