Kent Island Metric Marathon

The Kent Island Running Group (KIRG) will be hosting their second annual Kent Island Metric Marathon & Half Metric Marathon, on Sunday, April 15, 2012.

The Kent Island Metric Marathon (16.3 miles) & Half Metric Marathon (8.15 miles) is a great opportunity to jumpstart the running season, whether you are training for an upcoming distance race or just getting going from a winters break! This popular race will take place on Kent Island; south along Rte. 8, following the South Island Trail from Matapeake State Park to the Romancoke Pier and back. This year the race starts and ends at Matapeake State Park, with most of the course on the paved trail and just a few miles on paved roads through quiet neighborhoods. It is a truly scenic and beautiful run.

New for 2012: KIDS FUN RUN. For 8-12 year olds there is the KI Mini-Metric (approx.. an eight of a mile.) For kids age 7 and under, we have the KI Mini-Half Metric (about 138 yards.) Registration is only $10 and each racer receives a participation ribbon, snack bag, water and Gatorade. The KIDS FUN RUN will commence immediately following the start of the adult run. Make it a family affair!

Interested? Register for all races at KIRG.org or ACTIVE.com.

All proceeds from this event benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Race Director Trudy Humphreys comments, “Organizing this race through KIRG ties in my passion for running along with my passion toward finding a cure for blood cancer.” For more information about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, go to www.leukemia-lymphoma.org.

The public is invited to come, watch, cheer on the racers, visit our vendor booths, donate and of course participate!

The Kent Island Running Group (KIRG) was founded in November 2009. Their mission is to provide a network of members with various running backgrounds with a way to connect with other runners, and to share and improve their sport for better health and mental well-being. KIRG meets Saturday mornings for an informal run on the Cross Island Trail.
