Kent Island Storm Lacrosse Hits Tampa, Florida This Winter

It is very exciting to report that both the U-13 and U-15 STORM Lacrosse Teams are headed to the National Championship in Tampa, Florida over New Year’s weekend. Both teams earned bids to the Nationals by winning multiple tournaments this summer. This tournament, hosted by Dick’s Sporting Goods, will include top youth lacrosse teams from the U.S. and Canada.

Despite the very limited geography from which Storm pulls their players, the U-13 team established themselves as one of the top U-13 lacrosse teams in the country, and the U-15 team exceeded all records of previous years.

In an effort to set the bar high for the players, the Storm coaching staff elected to play in the strongest possible division in all tournaments.  “Our boys certainly answered the call.  Our U13 team took third in one tournament, second in three others, and won three championships; our U15 team took third in one tournament and won two championships”, said Coach Johnny Giuffreda.

While only a handful of the players seemed to grow physically this season, each of them grew tremendously in character as the year progressed.  Storm organizers continued to keep the players active in charitable acts for the community by participating in such things as the Living Water Food Bank Program and the Wounded Warriors Home Building Program.

Kent Island Storm contributes their success not only to the coaches, players and parents, but to the support from the community and the contributions from many sponsors.  “This program has truly been a team effort, and the contributions from the local community members and businesses certainly supports this concept”, said U-13 Head Coach Keith Thomas.

As the Kent Island Storm Team prepares themselves on the field, organizers are preparing the team off the field. There are numerous fund-raising and sponsorship opportunities going on throughout the next couple of months, some of which offer great advertising opportunities.
