KES Performing Arts Pre-teen of the Week— Sumaya El Dieahy

Sumaya El Dieahy is a 5th-grader at Kennard Elementary School and is the QACPS Performing Arts “Pre-Teen of the Week”.

Sumaya is described by music teacher Windy Broadwater as “a world class musician who not only plays the flute in Kennard’s Elementary School Band this year. She is also in the Tiger Choir, plays the piano and enjoys learning the guitar with her dad.”

Sumaya said that she first began to love music when she heard her dad playing guitar with his band, and shared, “one of the best things about being in the KES band and choir is enjoying all of these new experiences with my friends.”

Learning to play and sing new music is a lot of fun for her. “That is what music is all about,” said Sumaya, “learning and having fun! Sumaya is also looking forward to performing in the spring concert on Tuesday May 24th at Kennard Elementary.

Besides being a wonderful musician, Sumaya also enjoys being in the PFY program after school, reading and playing video games. She likes learning about plants and animals in Science class and also enjoys free drawing in Art class, in addition to dancing with the Step 1 Dance 2 Academy on Kent Island. In February of this year, Sumaya was selected as one of the Students of the Month.

“She not only embodies the ideas of a world class musician at Kennard Elementary School, but also the character pillars we try to instill in our students daily! Well done Sumaya! Mrs. Broadwater and the staff and students at KES are very proud of you,” said Mrs. Broadwater.
