Do you have a garage full of broken, discarded or reusable items taking up precious space? Do you have a special knack for making something out of nothing? Here is your chance to reclaim those piles of scrap, bottle tops, aluminum foil and more. The Kent Island Federation of Arts is offering you the opportunity to turn ordinary trash into treasure at its First Annual Recycled & Reclaimed Art Show in April.
On Saturday, April 17th from 10 to 2pm KIFA invites you join the fun as members celebrate Earth Day at KIFA on Main Street in Stevensville. The festivities include grounds cleanup, white elephant sale, art basket raffle, bake sale, free children’s workshops, face painting, recycled art exhibit, “green” crafts vendors, and more. The event concludes with an artist reception from 3-5pm. Prizes will be awarded to the top three winners and refreshments served.
Susan Ayers, KIFA board member and co-president said the organization is looking to revitalize its image and reclaim its position as a well-rounded cornerstone to the art community here on Kent Island. She said that this 40th anniversary of Earth Day is the perfect opportunity to do just that. “It is our hope to renew our connection to the community by bringing in artistic events and opportunities for creativity that inspire people of all ages,” Ayers said.
So whether you create a unique work of art, bring your rakes to help spruce up, or just come down and join the fun, you won’t want to miss this free event. Entry fee for artwork is $5 for members $7 for nonmembers. All types of media welcomed. Art work drop off March 29th from 9:30-noon and March 30th from 9:30-2pm at 405 Main Street in historic Stevensville.
