KENT ISLAND — (October 18, 2019) — Senior Meghan Hobbs has amassed an incredible amount of art accolades at Kent Island High School (KIHS) this past year. With all the exciting progress in the Arts in Queen Anne’s County that have created more opportunities for our student artists to gain a spot in the limelight, it’s no surprise that Mrs. Schulte, Art teacher at KIHS has worked closely with yet another outstanding Arts Teen of the Week!
“Meghan is one of the most articulate students I have had the pleasure of working with,” says Schulte. “She has such focus with what she wants to say with her artwork to the viewers. I am consistently impressed with her willingness to revise and refine, and her attention to detail is simply impressive!”
Meghan’s watercolor painting entitled Beautiful Contrast is a great example of her attention to detail. From the intricate floral patterns on the fabric to the tiniest of details in the earrings Meghan captures it all. More importantly, she captivates us with the feeling she’s been able to project through her subjects’ eyes.
“Meghan is simply fantastic,” says Michael Bell, Supervisor of Visual and Performing Arts for Queen Anne’s County. “Artists are the greatest storytellers, and Meghan’s ability to explore someone else’s story through her portraits are particularly engaging. I look forward to seeing her work at ArtScene this April, and excited to shine a spotlight on our artists in Queen Anne’s County.
This past year Meghan has already exhibited in the prestigious Walters Art Museum in Baltimore. She was also an Academy Art Museum medalist, a Superintendent’s Gallery selection, and a participant in the district’s first Scholastic Art & Writing competition. She also exhibited work at Kent Island Federation of Art’s student exhibition. This past spring she was inducted in KIHS’ first ever National Art Honor Society with Ms. Moyer (NAHS Sponsor) and Mrs. Sage (Co-Sponsor) at the districts’ first ever ArtScene, where she was also awarded Mr. Schrecongost’s esteemed Principal’s Award.
Coupled with her passion for art, Meghan also takes a rigorous academic course load, with Advanced Placement Environmental Science and Medical Interventions. We look forward to seeing her work at ArtScene 2020 this Spring on Thursday, April 23rd!
