Kratovil Sponsors Immigration Bill

U.S. Representative Frank Kratovil, D-Md-1st, introduced a bill that would increase prison terms and fines for employers who knowingly hire illegal workers. H.R. 4627, the Criminal Penalties for Unauthorized Employment Act of 2010, would expand criminal and civil penalties. Current law allows penalties, including up to six months in jail, if a person shows a pattern of violations. The bill would fine first-time offenders up to $2,500 per worker, with graduated fine increases for subsequent offenses. It would also increase jail terms to one year for the first offense.
