Lend a Hand: Never Hesitate to Give Back – Meet Volunteer Mark Bowen

By Avra Sullivan

After the death of a friend’s father two years ago, Mark Bowen said he “became personally aware of the amazing care provided by hospice.” He decided to give back through his company, Kent Island Mechanics, by hosting charitable fundraisers. On October 6, he will be hosting the 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit Hospice of Queen Anne’s County.

The first event hosted by Mark was to benefit a young man who lost both his legs below the knees due to an illness. Mark says the fundraiser was a great way to bring people together on the young man’s behalf and to help relieve the family’s financial burden. Mark keeps in touch with the recipient and says he has seen him “flourish and become a happy young man again.”

Kent Island Mechanics is hosting the charity golf tournament on October 6 at the Compass Pointe Golf Course in Pasadena. It includes a light breakfast, lunch buffet, 18 holes of golf with cart and contests and prizes. The tournament begins at 7am with breakfast and practice time on the driving range and putting green.

Mark is originally from Baltimore and loves being outdoors on the water, fishing, crabbing or boating with his three children. He would like to thank Pamela McGovern for nominating him for Lend A Hand.
