Library Offers Drop-In Programs During QACPS Fall Breaks

When the Queen Anne’s County Public Schools close mid-day on October 16, fall children’s events begin at the Kent Island Branch of Queen Anne’s County Library. The following programs do not require advance registration. All library events are free of charge.

On Wednesday, October 16 from 2:30-3:30pm, children ages 4-10 can take the LEGO® Fall Challenge, using the library’s LEGO® collection to build anything associated with autumn.

On Friday, October 18 from 1:30 until 3:00pm, all ages are invited to create art using LEGO® pieces. Donations of unwanted or mismatched LEGOs may be dropped off at the library through the morning of October 18. Children will take home their unique works of art. Class is taught by artist Glenn Shiring.

Shiring also leads Art at Noon every Saturday at the library, including Saturday, October 19 from 12-2pm. On Saturday, October 26 from 12-2pm, all ages can design masks at a special Art at Noon Halloween event.

On Friday, October 25 at 2pm, children in PreK-5th grade will hear a story about a happy witch, a cast of animals, and a hungry dragon before coloring a canvas Halloween tote bag with permanent markers to take home.

The library hosts a Halloween party on Friday, October 31 at 2:30pm. Children in kindergarten through 5th grade may wear costumes and enjoy crafts and snacks.

The Bubble Lady returns to the library on Friday, November 1 at 9:30 and 11:00am. Children of all ages can see, touch, and blow giant bubbles, long bubbles, and smoke bubbles, and they may even be invited inside a bubble!

Rachael Stein of Eastern Shore Regional Library presents Tablet Magic Story Hour on Monday, November 4 at 1:30pm in a fun mix of storytelling and technology. Children in kindergarten through second grade will use an iPad app to create a story, such as a fractured fairy tale. Small groups will use toys, puppets, and props to represent a story scene.
