Lighthouse Christian Academy Hosts Dads and Donuts

On Friday, October 18, Lighthouse Christian Academy hosted its first Dads and Donuts breakfast at the beginning of the school day. Students were asked to invite their dad, grandfather, uncle, coach, or other special friend to attend with them and start the day together. School volunteers set up a breakfast of bagels, donuts, sweetbreads, muffins, coffee, and orange juice in the school’s gymnasium, and guests began to arrive at 7:45 AM. There was nearly 100% participation among school families, and the men and children enjoyed fellowship and breakfast together. Each day at Lighthouse Christian Academy begins with devotions in the sanctuary with the school’s Bible teacher, Pastor Jim Rayner, and all special guests of the breakfast were invited to attend and participate in devotions. Friday’s weekly theme is “Free-for-All Friday,” where the students encounter fun surprises during their day’s opening. This week, selected Dads and special guests were invited on stage to participate in an unusual game of musical chairs, where the chairs were the fathers of the students, to the delight of the children in attendance. After devotions, guests were invited to shop with their child at the Scholastic Book Fair and then sit in on the child’s classes until 10 AM. The dads and special guests not only enjoyed breakfast with their child, they also made new connections with one another and gained a greater sense of what’s happening inside the classrooms.
