Jaime Langdon, co-director of The Learning & Development Resource Center and the executive director of the National Autism Association of Maryland-Eastern Shore was recently named one of 27 ‘Delmarvalous Women’ by the Delmarva Broadcasting Company and Delaware’s, the Eagle 97.7.
Nominated by Mary Ann Henker of The Henker Group, Langdon was recognized along with 26 other women in the Delmarva region for completing a ‘brave, successful and heroic journey.’ Nearly 100 women were nominated for the award. Recipients, along with their respective stories, were announced live in groups of three on Eagle In the Morning with Petch and Paula from late September to early November. Langdon was announced as a recipient along with her inspirational story on-air on October 30, 2009.
Langdon was honored with the other recipients at a semi-formal awards banquet on Friday, November 20, 2009 at the Sheraton Dover Hotel in Dover, Delaware with over 200 in attendance at the ‘by-invitation only’ event. Ruth Ann Minner, Delaware’s former Governor was the guest speaker.
Recipients ranged from volunteers, to government leaders, to business owners. Langdon was recognized for her initiatives, leadership and grassroots effort in establishing both the National Autism Association of Maryland-Eastern Shore (NAAMDES) and co-founding The Learning & Development Resource Center (LDRC) this year. The NAAMDES is dedicated to helping families and individuals in Maryland’s eastern shore communities affected by autism spectrum disorders. The organization provides therapy, resources, support groups and financial assistance for autism related needs. NAAMDES is housed in The Learning & Resource Development Center (LDRC), which is the region’s “one-stop shop” for children and teens on the brink of potential yet challenged by ADHD, dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, auditory processing and sensory related issues. The Center provides individuals and families an academic, therapeutic, and supportive environment in which to receive quality, related services such as educational therapy, counseling, testing, and tutoring. It also has one of the most exhaustive resource libraries in the area and in addition to the NAAMDES, houses Sound Foundations for Learning. The LDRC is located in Easton, Maryland and serves those from Anne Arundel County, Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Southern Delaware.

I was humbled to hear the many stories of triumph, perseverance and determination and walked away from the evening having gained a true sense of ‘sisterhood’.
