Friends of Dorchester General Hospital will gather on Saturday, May 21 for a tropical luau at the waterfront home of Dr. and Mrs. Michael Moran. This elegant fundraiser will support palliative care services for the hospital.
The event begins at 6:00 p.m. with an island style welcome. Oxford’s Latitude 38 has created a tropically inspired menu featuring jerk chicken with pineapple, blackened mahi mahi with mango salsa, pulled pork with Hawaiian barbecue sauce, rice and black beans, and an assortment of fresh fruit and vegetables. The dessert buffet will entice diners to sample key lime tartlets, frozen banana bites dipped in chocolate, lemon bars and coconut cookies.
Guests can work off the calories when Mike Hines and The Look turn up their high energy dance music. Throughout the evening, silent and live auctions will add to the fun and the fundraising. Bidding will heat up for a barbeque and dance party for 100 people; dinner for six at Bistro Poplar in Cambridge; a framed portrait by Laura Era; a day spa package and other quality items.
Funds raised at the DGH Luau will be used to create a palliative care suite at Dorchester General Hospital. This new patient care area will provide a private place for people who are transitioning into hospice care at the end of life. In the suite, patients will spend time with their loved ones while continuing to receive medical treatment.
Sponsors for the DGH Luau include the Dorchester General Hospital Foundation, the Shore Health System Medical Staff, MidShore Surgical Eye Center and Delmarva Radiology. Other businesses supporting the fundraiser are Delmarva Power, Miles & Stockbridge Foundation, AIM Transport and the law office of Michael C. Maloney. Other physicians and members of the community who have pledged sponsorships are Jennifer Goddard Brant and Andrew Goddard; Dr. & Mrs. Mahmood Shariff; Dr. & Mrs. Eugene Newmier; Dr. & Mrs. William Bair; Dr. & Mrs. Michael Moran; Dr. & Mrs. Morris Effron; Dr. & Mrs. Paul Monte; Dr Paul Brant, Cambridge Family Eye Care; and Eastern Shore Emergency Medicine Physicians Michael Joyce, MD, Salvatore Verteramo, MD, and Jane Wang, MD.
