Some of the state’s restrictions on crabbing could soon be coming to an end. With the population of blue crabs surging around the Chesapeake Bay, the state is considering dropping the ban on harvesting female crabs from September 26th to October 4th. Watermen would still have to abide by the limits on the number of females that can be harvested each day, and the November 10th deadline would still be in play. The crab population is thought to be at its highest in more than a decade. This one restriction more than the others is what watermen wanted overturned as soon as possible.
