Mediation Volunteer Receives Statewide Recognition

A local Mid Shore Community Mediation Center volunteer was recently honored by Community Mediation Maryland (CMM). Rebecca Clizbe received a Certificate of Appreciation from CMM Executive Director Lorig Charkoudian at the statewide organization’s Fifth Annual Gala inAnnapolis.

Clizbe was recognized for her commitment and dedication to community mediation. She was commended for her service in mediating conflicts, conducting community outreach and assisting with training.

Mid Shore Community Mediation Center serves Caroline,Dorchester and Talbot counties, providing no-cost mediation services through the help of volunteer mediators like Clizbe. During the confidential process, trained volunteers enable participants to work together to discuss disagreements freely, working out mutually agreeable solutions to the conflicts.

During the CMM celebration, the Maryland State Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services was presented with the organization’s Commitment to Conflict Resolution Award for its assistance in developing a prisoner re-entry mediation program. As part of that effort, the Talbot County Department of Corrections has been working with CMM and Mid Shore Mediation. They use mediation in assisting inmates who are returning to the outside community to rebuild relationships and make the concrete plans important to successful re-entry.

CMM supports the work of Mid Shore Mediation and the sixteen other community mediation centers throughout the state by providing training, increasing public awareness, and through partnership with other organizations and government agencies, such as the Department of Corrections.

“We really value the work done by volunteers like Rebecca,” said Charkoudian. “Their commitment and hard work ensure that people throughout Maryland have access to high quality mediation services at no cost to resolve disputes and build relationships.”
