Queen Anne’s County Arts Council’s Centre for the Arts invites the public to an exhibit featuring fine artist Ann Harlan, multi-media artist Susan Mayberry and abstract artist Caroline Weiss. The exhibit begins Friday, September 14th, with a “Members’ Best” reception from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Ann Harlan has had a passion for the arts since she was young and says creating art is “her spirit’s song”. She lives with her husband in Centreville, where she paints out of her own studio. She began her education in Fine Arts at Ohio University and continued her studies at the University of Maryland where she earned a B.A. in Art Education. She also enjoyed her work as an art teacher which allowed her to share her love of artistic expression with others.
Susan Mayberry brings a variety of artistic skills to the Centre; including oil painting, sea glass mosaics and interior decorating. She began her work in the Washington D.C. area after graduating from the University of Maryland with a double major in Art and Art History. Many of her pieces are inspired from the landscape and creatures of the Chesapeake Bay, harvesting materials that she gathers from local beaches. Now a resident of the Eastern Shore, Susan runs a decorative painting business from her studio in Queenstown.
Linnie (Caroline) Weiss is a native Annapolitan. She began her interest in art as a young child, learning from her grandmother who was working as a professional artist. She and her husband moved to Centreville in 2000. She has studied with numerous artists including Marie Linnekin, Donna Baspaly, Anne Baldwin, Gwen Fox, and Stephen Quiller. She also utilized her artistic abilities as a career interior designer for more than 20 years. Her paintings are mainly abstract, which she describes as a way to “allow viewers the freedom to create their own stories”.
The “Members’ Best” exhibits range from emerging to established professionals with a wide range of styles and mediums. These rotating exhibits offer artists and audience members an excellent opportunity to participate in a show that reflects the diversity of regional artwork. The Fall Members’ Best show will run from September 15th through October 27th. The Centre is located at 206 S. Commerce St., Centreville, MD. 410.758.2520 or exhibit@arts4u.info.
