Mid-Shore Pro Bono recently celebrated National Pro Bono Week with a reception honoring its attorney volunteers. Sponsored and hosted by Rise Up Coffee Roasters, Mid-Shore Pro Bono staff, friends, family and volunteers all came out to thank the attorneys. More than 80 lawyers donated over 2500 hours of their time in the past year to the low-income clients served by the organization in Kent, Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Talbot and Dorchester counties.

“Without our volunteer attorneys, there would be no program,” said Sandy Brown, Executive Director of Mid-Shore Pro Bono. The lawyers were presented with certificates of appreciation, complimentary coffee mugs and bags of Rise Up Coffee.

Also attending the event was the Honorable Karen M. Jensen, Circuit Court Judge in Caroline County, who helped found the organization in 2005. “I can’t say how much it means to me to see where Mid-Shore Pro Bono is today,” she said, emphasizing the impact the organization has on everyone in the community. She expressed her own appreciation for the attorneys who “believe in giving back to the community.” Jensen noted that the value of their donated time last year amounted to more than $600,000.

A representative from Congressman Andy Harris’ office presented a commendation to Brown for the organization’s service to the community. Emma Rose Myers offered classical guitar accompaniment to the evening’s wine, coffee and desserts.
