Millington Wants to Fix Water Leaks

Millington will take the first step in fixing water main leaks it blames on faulty work done when the system was installed. Approval was given at a regular council meeting to fix the first and most serious of the leaks underneath the Chester River.

Dave Teel, the town’s circuit-rider administrator, recommended the town have David A. Bramble Inc. fix the river leak. The cost is expected to be about $98,000. Bramble was the low bidder at $294,400 to repair all the 18 leaks. Teel said they could do it one at a time if they had to spread out the cost. Councilman Dennis Hager said he was worried about cash flow; however, Teel said the town has “some reserves” to cover it. Teel said the town will also pursue recovering costs from contractor Bearing Inc. that installed the system, and McCrone Inc., the engineering firm that oversaw the work. The town has been attempting to negotiate with the two firms over the past year to avoid going to court.
