A Cambridge woman who gave birth to a baby girl in a portable toilet last year has pleaded guilty to second-degree child abuse. The plea deal allowed 44-year-old Candy Vigneri to avoid any additional jail time; she had been jailed since July 1. Court documents show that Vigneri was found to be suffering from a mental disorder that made her a danger to herself and others. Documents also show she has a history of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and has spent time in mental health facilities. According to documents, Vigneri gave birth to the baby in a portable toilet at Long Wharf Park and dropped her into the waste holding tank. Doctors had to extract chemicals from the baby’s stomach. The girl survived and is under the care of Social Services.
