Maryland State Police identified the victim of a fire in Queen Anne’s County and the cause of the blaze. Troopers said 47-year-old William Matthews was found inside his burned home in Stevensville on Kent Island on December 2. An autopsy indicated he died of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries. Investigators say Matthews started the fire, using an unidentified accelerant and igniting the blaze. It took 75 firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control. Damage was estimated at $550,000.
