Dr. Kibler and the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education are pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Becky Tubman as the new principal of Matapeake Elementary School.
Mrs. Tubman received her Master’s degree in Administration and Educational Leadership from Salisbury University and holds an Administrator I and II certification. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Frostburg University.
Mrs. Tubman taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades at MES and in Talbot County, where she was recognized as Teacher of the Year. She then served three years as Teacher Specialist at KIES, three years as Assistant Principal of SMS, and most recently four years as Principal of GES. She also served as a representative to MSDE’s Gifted and Talented briefings; a primary talent development curriculum writer for MSDE’s Open Educational Resources platform; and facilitating the 2018-2019 Revised Primary Talent Development pilot for QACPS.
The 2026-2027 school year will be her 30th year in education and she has no plans of retiring. Mrs. Tubman’s two sons are both graduates of KIHS and attended MES and MMS. Mrs. Tubman and her husband happily reside in Talbot County with their three labs. Education runs in the family as her husband is a principal and both her sons are teachers. Of the appointment, she says, “I will always cherish my time and memories at GES, and am excited to return to MES in this new role and back to a community that was a second home for many years. My goal is to inspire students, staff, and families to work together in a way that allows MES to truly shine, every single day.”
