Music at Wye Offers Free Concert

Music at Wye invites the public to a free concert featuring Trio Sima.  Internationally recognized for its “powerful” and “heartfelt” interpretations of classical music, the trio will perform on Sunday, March 28 at 3 p.m. at the Old Wye Parish Hall on Route 662 in Wye Mills.

These widely sought-after performers have played at major venues throughout Europe and North America.  They have come to the Eastern Shore as finalists in the international Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition in Easton on Saturday March 27.  As finalists, they agreed to offer a free performance the day following the Competition.

Violinist Sami Merdinian recently appeared as a soloist with the Buenos Aires Philharmonic and the Charlemagne Orchstre and Symphony Pro Musica.  He has won a number of competitions including the Franz Liszt competition and the Sewannee Festival Concerto Competition.  Mr. Merdinian studied music at Juilliard and Yale and plays a 1622 Amati violin on loan from Yale.

The cellist, Ani Kilayjian, has played at Carnegie Hall and at venues in Europe and Canada.  She has a Masters in Music from Royal Northern College of Music where she was a student of Robert Kirshbaum.  Her undergraduate study was at the Menkes College of Music.

Sofya Melikjan, a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, is the pianist.  She has won a number of first prizes in international competitions and has played on tour in Spain, Germany, France, Russia, Armenia, Italy, Serbia and the United States.

Following the concert, the audience is invited to stay for refreshments and meet the artists. The beautiful and historic Old Wye Church, built in 1721, will be open for visitors.
