The very young and even newborns benefit from an early introduction to music. From motor skill development to hearing, socialization and active listening, musical instruction helps to create a positive foundation for art appreciation and even has benefits in mathematical cognition. The Queen Anne’s County Arts Council welcomes new instructor Rebecca Bryson to the Centre for the Arts this fall for classes from Kindermusik.

Ages 2 to 3 learn to sing, dance and play instruments with parents and other students. Parents and guardians are given ideas in each class on keeping music in the home throughout the week. This is a four-week class starting on Wednesday, October 17 from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Materials: $10.55 includes music from class, activities and each month’s story. To be paid to the instructor on the first day of class. $75 for Arts Council members and $90 for non-members. The deadline for registration is October 10.

For newborns and up there is a family oriented class that invites sisters and brothers to enjoy music together as a family. Classes focus on helping each child to discover their own voice and method of expression while sharing creativity and joy. This is a four-week class starting on Friday, October 19 from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Materials: $10.55 includes music from class, activities and each month’s story. To be paid to the instructor on the first day of class. $75 for Arts Council members and $90 for non-members. Additional registration for siblings is half the regular rate. The deadline for registration is October 10.

Instructor Rebecca Bryson began piano lessons at age 3 beginning her life-long love of music and teaching. She has been in the Royal School of Church Music Choir as Head Chorister and began her work as a Kindermusik instructor by helping her mother as a teenager. A mother of three boys, watching their journey into music exploration brought her back to teaching music which she loves.

Centre for the Arts classes are designed to renew existing artistic interests and develop new skills. Office hours at 206 South Commerce Street are Tuesday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.
