Local resident Emily Campion is an early education student at Chesapeake College, substitute teacher at The Kinder Garden on Kent Island and business owner – all at the age of twenty-two. Emily’s grandmother and parents often said to her “You should start your own business” so when Emily heard of an opportunity to launch her own booth within a new store she jumped at the chance; especially since it was just the type of business Emily had often wanted to open.

Emily’s booth, LuluBelle’s, is located inside a new antique, consignment and gift shop in Grasonville called The Cool Cat which is located on Saddler Road just a stone’s throw away from Holly’s Restaurant. The Cool Cat, which opened on March 15, is owned by local resident Cindy Jenkins who wanted to facilitate sales of antiques and modern day items as well as women’s clothing for consignors.   “I am very excited about this location as it offers a very cozy setting to display the diverse items we have for sale. It previously was an antique store so we look forward to bringing antique and vintage lovers back to this location. We try and make it easy for consignors by accepting items without appointment during our hours of operation. We even provide our consignors with the ability to view their accounts on line and check status of their sales and offer a 50/50 split”   said Cindy, The Cool Cat’s owner.   The Cool Cat is also an eBay drop off point site.

Cindy selected the name because she was looking for something edgy and memorable that also spoke to her other passion, animal rescue. Cindy’s goal is to offer a wide variety of antiques and gift including furniture, home décor, kitchenware and women‘s clothing. Cindy stresses the importance of having varied styles so there is something for everyone.

LuluBelle’s, Emily’s booth within The Cool Cat, showcases many wonderful items that Emily and her family have collected over the years or that were given to her by friends and family from furniture to hanging artwork and household decor. Emily’s favorite item is the exquisite Deacon’s bench; a unique piece that at one time adored a church altar but in more recent years was part of her parent’s bedroom furniture. Other items include two hand painted children’s chairs with typical Chesapeake Bay area scenes. The chairs were gift to Emily and her brother when they were young and were painted by John of Lylilok Studios, a former local business. “I am grateful to Cindy for this opportunity and for her faith in my ability to help build business for The Cool Cat and LuluBelles” said Emily Campion. “I chose the name for my booth within The Cool Cat because I thought it was in keeping with Cindy’s theme for something unique and memorable and it was the name that my aunt and mom called me when I was younger …and still call me from time to time. Now that I am in my early twenties I am very excited about building a business in my home town and helping others fill their homes with items that create an ambiance which will part of their family memories for years to come,” said new business owner Emily Campion.

The Cool Cat will host its grand opening on April 12th from 10AM – 4PM To learn more about The Cool Cat go to www.thecoolcat.net or visit them on Faceback.
