Ballroom Dance classes for seniors are forming at Grasonville Senior Center. This Healthy Living for Older Adults class offers a great low impact workout in a fun social setting. Sessions are designed specifically for seniors to improve health through education and awareness training. Dance Instructor Anne Marie Duld will lead the group on Tuesdays, July 6 – October 12, 2010 from 1:00PM – 2:30PM. No prior dance experience is necessary and beginners are encouraged to try this fun class; it will have you feeling confident about your dance steps. Participants must be age 60 or better. New Enhance Fitness exercise classes are now forming at Grasonville Senior Center. Enhance Fitness is a fun and lively program that works. It combines the three key components of fitness: strength training, flexibility, and cardiovascular conditioning. Participants will strength train with light weights, increase range of movement and help prevent falls, and experience improvement in walking and breathing. Enhance fitness was designed for older adults and beginners are encouraged to attend. Participants will work at their own pace with individual assistance from the instructor. Class meets three times each week; Monday and Friday at 9:45am and Wednesday at 12:30pm. Class begins July 7 and runs for 15 weeks. Grasonville Senior Center will offer several Craft Design and Production classes during the summer session. Students will be learning the production and marketing of craft items, basic sales techniques and the fundamentals of preparing craft items for decoration and sale. Topics include: how to develop benchmarks, measure profitable production, marketing and quality control. Classes offered will emphasize Ceramic Arts, Tole Painting and Oil Painting. Emphasis on Ceramic Arts will be offered on Mondays at 12:30PM beginning September 13. Emphasis on Tole Painting is offered on Tuesdays at 12:30PM beginning July 13. This class teaches the folk art of decorative painting on tin and wooden items such as utensils or furniture. Emphasis on Oil Painting will meet Thursdays at 9:30AM and also at 12:30PM beginning July 22. Students will paint the subject of their choice while learning to mix colors, highlight, and shade using oils. Beginners are encouraged to try these fun classes and learn our flawless techniques.
