New Issue of The Delmarva Review Is Off the Press

The Delmarva Review announced publication of its third annual issue.  The review, a literary voice for the Chesapeake region, features new writing by 28 authors from seven states, the District of Columbia and two foreign countries.

Published by the Eastern Shore Writers’ Association (ESWA), the Review focuses attention on new prose and poetry from writers in the region, while welcoming work from all writers, everywhere. The publication’s intent is that memorable writing connects people beyond local geographical boundaries.

The theme of the 76-page issue is “literature of place.” It includes 21 poems, five short stories, four essays, and five book reviews from authors in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, the District of Columbia, Tennessee, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Canada and the Philippines.

The color cover, entitled “Curious 1,” by photographer Christopher Wood, depicts a woman standing on a chair peering over a floral wall, suggesting “the natural inquisitiveness of readers,” as Linda Fritz, the editor, says in the preface. “What worlds lie over the wall? Across the water? Beyond the horizon?” she writes.

The 2010 issue highlights new work from two featured authors, poet J. Wesley Clark, from Annapolis, MD and fiction writer Gwen Florio, who grew up near the tidal marshes of the Delaware Bay and now lives in Montana. Previous prose and poems in the Review have been nominated for six Pushcart Prizes, a prestigious literary award.

“This is the third issue,” said Wilson Wyatt, chairman of the Review’s Editorial Board. “In publishing, they say the third issue of a literary review is a mark of achievement. It represents permanence. We’re delighted to give authors a new publishing venue for their best work.”

The Delmarva Review is a nonprofit publishing venture of ESWA, with additional funding from a Hedgelawn Foundation grant and support from private contributions and sales. The foundation promotes culture and the arts on the Delmarva Peninsula. ESWA supports writers and the literary arts across the region.

A volunteer Editorial Board and readers are responsible for the contents of the Review and its publication. The board includes Linda Fritz, editor, of Easton, Kate Blackwell, of Neavitt and Washington, D.C., Mala Burt, managing editor, of St. Michaels, John Elsberg, from Henderson and Arlington, VA, George Merrill, of St. Michaels, Margot Miller, of Easton, and Wilson Wyatt, chairman, from Bozman. The copy editor is Jeanne Pinault, of Cambridge. Laura Ambler, of Easton, is design editor.

The Review  is being distributed to regional bookstores and libraries across the Delmarva and is available for online orders. Single issues are $10 each, and two-year subscriptions are $18 from the website, www.delmarvareview.com.

Writers interested in submitting new work for the next issue are encouraged to review the submission guidelines on the website after September 1, at the beginning of the submission period.
