New Year’s Eve Dance Fundraiser

Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a name most youth 14 and up know at Centreville United Methodist Church. ASP provides one of the most rewarding structured service opportunities in the nation bringing thousands of volunteers from around the country to rural Central Appalachiato repair homes for low-income families.  These youth and adults who go work hard repairing homes with ASP; their hands will grow a little tougher, their arms a little stronger, and their relationship with God a whole lot deeper. They return home to their community with a passion for service, a renewed compassion for other people, and a fresh appreciation for their place and purpose in this world. ASP’s goal is to make homes “warmer, safer and drier” for needy families and they have done that for more than 40 years for thousands of families.  Without the help and dedication from many youth and adults, they are only able to serve one in ten families who apply for help. They need many more volunteers to make a lasting dent in Appalachian poverty. Some of the jobs that are performed are installing insulation, repairing porches, reinforcing foundations, replacing flooring, replacing roofing and many more but mostly, this experience brings our youth closer to God.

Centreville United Methodist Church have 30 dedicated youth and 15 adults going to Appalachia June 27-July 3, 2010 to work in homes as their missionary work. There will be 6 teams, double from last year’s mission trip. It is remarkable to know that these 30 youth are excited and willing to spend their summer to help others in need. “As a participant myself summer of 2008 and this upcoming summer 2010, it is moving to see these youth work so hard and share their faith with families” Robin Lansinger statement. This is not possible without plenty of fundraising and the support of our church.
