Night Time Computers – For P.M. I.T. ASAP

By Sandra Zunino

When a computer malfunction occurs after traditional business hours, don’t despair. Night Time Computer in Chester specializes in hardware and software systems support for the most challenging technical problems when other companies are closed for the day.

Partners Josh Ruby and Robert Chumley officially opened the shop in June of 2009. Prior to that, both ran the business out of their individual homes. With Josh’s technical abilities combined with Robert’s software engineering and web developing experience, the two decided to collaborate on the venture while still working their respective full-time jobs.

“We realized we were able to fill a niche for those who needed work on their computers after other computer businesses were closed,” says Robert. “Due to the demand, we found ourselves working later and later.”

Since the shop opened, Night Time Computers has experience rapid growth and now has a full staff to serve its customer base covering Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Anne Arundel and Kent counties with technicians traveling as far west as Bowie.

Services include residential computer set up and repair, networking solutions for home and business applications, computer security and protection, software applications, web developing and a computer consignment service.

Providing 24-hour service, clients may receive a return call even when the shop has closed. “We get a large quantity of business after 5:00 p.m.,” says Robert. “We have gone out on site as late as 10:00 p.m.”

Unlike a retail outlet, Night Time Computers is not a place to shop for computer accessories and other gizmos. Inventory is limited to power supplies, hard drives and other service-related stock so repairs can be made quickly and efficiently. Because of the consignment merchandise; however, one can find a deal on a refurbished computer.

Consignments typically come about when a computer becomes too expensive for the owner to repair, according to Robert. “We will repair the computer back to working order and put it up for consignment sale,” he explains. “When it sells, the shop shares the profit 50-50 with the consignor.”

Currently, there are about 50 consignment computers for sale offering all ranges of capabilities. Night Time Computers provide a six-month warranty on all hardware for the used computer and a 30-day warranty on all its software.

Because of the business’s brisk growth in the past several months, Robert says Night Time Computers may eventually expand to open more shops at other locations. The Kent Island shop will remain the operation’s home base.
