Nurse Recognized as Everyday Hero

Michele Williams, BSN, RN-BC, C, OCN, CHPN, was recently recognized for the second time as an Everyday Hero. A nurse on the multi-specialty care unit at The Memorial Hospital at Easton, Williams is a palliative care specialist whose professional and caring approach to her work prompted a member of the community to make a donation to the Memorial Hospital Foundation.

In her note to the Foundation, the donor recognized Williams as “a loving and compassionate person always ready to help anyone – young or old. She is one of the best in her profession.”

Remembering what she faced when her husband was diagnosed with a terminal illness, the donor wrote, “It was a very difficult time for me; decisions had to be made. Michele came to me with arms outstretched, saying, ‘I will help you.’ She was there to comfort and explain and gave outstanding care to my husband.”

Williams and her fellow nurses care for patients in the Palliative Care Suites available at Memorial Hospital. The private patient rooms and adjoining lounge allow families to spend their final days together with the support of skilled medical personnel and chaplains trained to minister in hospital settings.

The Memorial Hospital Foundation sponsors the Everyday Hero Program to give patients and their families an opportunity to honor a physician, staff member or volunteer by making a financial donation to the Foundation. These gifts are used to support Shore Health System in continuing its mission of delivering Exceptional Care, Every Day.
