Over 100 Talbot Youth Enjoy Roller Skating

The Talbot County Youth Coalition for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Prevention in cooperation with the Talbot County Parks and Recreation Department sponsored an “end of school” roller skating party on June 10 from 8 – 10:00 p.m. at the Community Center. This event celebrated the last day of school and had an 80’s theme. Over 100 youth ages 13-18 attended. Pizza and drinks were provided by Talbot Partnership, Roberto’s Pizza, and Giuffrida’s Pizza .

The Youth Coalition is a program intended to get youth involved in the problem that Talbot County has a growing substance abuse and addictions problem and assist in finding solutions. The Youth Coalition is part of an international Youth-to-Youth program which is a proven effective research-based prevention program. Events planned by the Youth Coalition are intended to provide activities for kids that can be fun and alcohol/drug free.

The next event planned by the Youth Coalition is an Ultimate Frisbee Tournament scheduled for July 17 at the Elks Lodge on Dutchman’s Lane from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. The intention of this event is to promote cooperation between all of the youth organizations in the County in a fun atmosphere. There is no cost to enter this tournament. Teams require a minimum of 7 players – one adult allowed with each team. Drinks and refreshments will be served.

The Youth Coalition is looking for new members who are interested in taking a leadership role in the community. The Youth Coalition is especially in need of younger members who can help to keep the process moving forward.
