Pistols and Petitions: Queen Anne’s County Slave Self-Emancipation in the 19th Century

The Kent Island Branch Library will be hosting a special program for teens and adults on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at 7 PM.

Guest presenters Tanner Sparks and Alex Champion of the Maryland State Archives will be bringing their “Legacy of Slavery in Maryland” research project entitled “Pistols and Petitions: Queen Anne’s Slave Self-Emancipati​on in the 19th Century” to the Kent Island Branch Library. Their presentation will be about the Queen Anne’s county slaves who freed themselves (or attempted to) through freedom petitions or by taking up arms for the United States Colored Troops in the Civil War. Light refreshments will be provided.
