Queen Anne’s County Parks and Recreation has added two new programs convenient for residents in the Centreville and Church Hill areas – Make Your Own Pottery and Martial Arts Instruction.
Children ages 5 to 8 will get their hands dirty while using their creativity to make fantastic and functional pieces of pottery. Experts from Centreville’s Pick N Paint Pottery will provide instruction and materials. The Make Your Own Pottery class costs $45 and includes all materials for 5 weeks. It will be held at Centreville Elementary School on Mondays, January 4 – February 8, 2010, from 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Program: 722006).
Beginning Martial Arts classes designed for students ages 8 to 14 and for ages 15 and up will be offered at both Centreville Middle School and Church Hill Elementary School beginning in January, 2010. Classes will teach the basics of self-defense and the principles and basic skills of Kenpo Karate, as well as the philosophy behind self-defense. Students will have the opportunity to test for different levels and earn belts for each level they pass. The $85 fee includes the cost of belts. No uniform is necessary, just loose, comfortable clothing. Males will need a protective cup.
Beginners’ classes for ages 8 to 14 at Centreville Middle School will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, January 4 – March 3, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (Program: 731010).
