A Cambridge paper company is being recognized for its efforts to go green. For years, the poultry industry has relied on wax coated boxes for shipping its product. But the wax coating has been an environmental nightmare because the boxes are not recyclable. Each year about 1.5-million tons of the boxes pile in landfills. Interstate Container of Cambridge is hoping to reduce that number. The company recently developed the Greencoat box, which replaces the wax with special additives that are 100 percent recyclable without compromising the strength found in wax coated boxes. In addition, its creators say it will help industries reduce consumption of oil from the wax and ultimately save trees because of the smaller design. Interstate Container is developing a patent on the Greencoat.
