DATE / TIME: 02/22/2013 @ 1233 Hours

LOCATION: Circuit Court Grounds, Centreville, MD

VICTIM: 2 QA Detention Center Correctional Officers

ARRESTED: Christopher Ryan Kitts (26) of Chester, MD

CHARGE: Assault / Escape

NARRATIVE: After receiving incarceration time from Circuit Court (six months in jail with 18 months of probation) on traffic charges (Driving Revoked), suspect Christopher Kitts was being escorted to the transport van by two Correctional Officers from the QA Detention Center. As they approached the van, Kitts who was not restrained due to an leg injury and his being on crutches, struck one officer in the face with a crutch and threw the 2nd crutch at the other officer. Kitts then fled on foot a short distance and then turned around and started back towards the Court House when he was taken back into custody by several police officers.

Kitts has been charged with Escape, (2) counts of assault on a Department of Corrections Officer, (2) counts of Assault and Hindering. At this time Kitts is being processed at Sheriff’s Headquarters. Once charges are completed, Kitts will be taken to a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and then to the Detention Center.

Neither officer sought medical attention after the incident. The officer struck in the face had some redness and minor swelling to her face.
