NARRATIVE: Sheriff Gary Hofmann reports that on December 13, 2011 the Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff received a complaint of a theft from the Kent Island High School PTA (Parent Teachers Association). D/Cpl. Stephen Stouffer of the Criminal Investigations Unit spoke with President of the KIHS PTA in reference to this complaint. D/Cpl. Stouffer’s investigation revealed that the PTA had paid the suspect (Joseph Myron Gill) $325.00 as a down payment in return for Mr. Gill to provide a professional athlete to speak at the Matapeake Middle School on October 18, 2011.
On October 14, 2011 Mr. Gill advised the PTA that he would be unable to have anyone attend the October 18, 2011 event. A refund was formally requested by the PTA but no money was ever returned.
Mr. Gill was arrested in Aberdeen, Maryland on December 6, 2011 for Theft charges stemming from failing to provide a speaker as paid to do by two other schools in Queen Anne’s County Maryland. At the time of his arrest on December 6, 2011 Mr. Gill was being sought by a number of law enforcement agencies including the Maryland Fugitive Task Force and the United States Marshalls.
On December 14, 2011 D/Cpl. Stouffer applied for and received an arrest warrant from the District Court for Mr. Gill charging him with a single count Theft. Gill is currently incarcerated at the Queen Anne’s County Detention Center.
