QAC Children’s Council Christmas Party for Families in Need 2013
On December 12, 2013, the Queen Anne’s County Council for Children and Youth provided a Holiday party at the Community Services building for 35 county families, 75 children and 65 adults. The Children’s Council, which is an advocate for county children and families, has been in existence in Queen Anne’s County for over 30 years. Their members are appointed by the County Commissioners. It has been a tradition for this organization to provide a night of Holiday fun for county families in need. This Council event was supported by the Kiwanis and Kent Island School Interact Club. Over 30 county businesses donated goods and door prizes. A special thanks goes to Nancy Hammond Editions who donated gloves to every child, Warren Prender, our Santa, Brandy Bouchat, our photographer who provided a picture of each family with Santa, Chesapeake HELPS who received and recorded all RSVPs, Richard Hammond Builders who provided chips and fruit, Subway in Queenstown and Chester who provided the cookies, Kmart who donated the Christmas tree which was used as a door prize and Peoples Bank, Outpost #544 and Hardees in Centreville for providing the beverages. Families enjoyed a light meal. Each child received a gift, pair of gloves, soc-ball, hot chocolate and cookie bag, beanie baby, candy cane and a book. They were also able to enjoy making a picture frame to display their Santa picture, played some Christmas games and enjoyed fantastic face painting by artists from the Interact Club. Children were so excited with their gifts exclaiming with joy and even some happy dances. One little very happy girl just had to tell Santa that she and her friend got the same Barbie doll! Families thanked the volunteers as they left the party wishing us a Merry Christmas.
